The questions we get most often

Do you deliver to the outer isles?

Yes — to every inhabited isle in Orkney. We palletise to harbour and arrange forward delivery with the local ferry agent. Lead times depend on the sailing schedule; allow up to two weeks in winter. See delivery areas.

Can I see something in the showroom that I've only browsed online?

If we have it in stock, yes. Call us first on +44 1856 872281 to confirm it is on the shop floor or in the back — we sometimes hold larger lines off site.

What payment methods do you take?

Debit card, credit card (no surcharge), bank transfer, gift card, and 0% interest-free finance for orders over £500. We do not accept cheques.

Can I get my old furniture taken away?

We don't run a take-away service but we work with Orkney Furniture Project who collect serviceable pieces and pass them on. Ask us for the current arrangements.

Do you do bespoke?

Yes — mainly on sofas, headboards and storage. Lead times are typically 8 – 14 weeks from confirmation of specification. See the bespoke note.

What is the return policy?

You have a statutory 14-day right to cancel an online order from the day you receive the goods. Full detail on the returns & refunds page.

Are your prices VAT-inclusive?

Yes — every price shown is in pounds sterling and includes UK VAT at 20%. Carriage is shown separately at checkout.

Can I get a VAT invoice for a business purchase?

Yes — tick "business purchase" at checkout and we will issue a VAT invoice. For trade pricing, see trade orders.

Do you sell mattresses on a try-and-return basis?

No. Mattresses are hygiene-sealed; once the seal is broken they cannot be returned. We are happy to spend time with you in the showroom to talk through firmness, support and warranty before you commit.

How do I leave a review?

We'll usually email you a review request after delivery. If we've missed you, post a Google review by searching for J & M McEwen Kirkwall — we read every one.
